Greenwich politicians urge council to pull £17m fossil fuels investment

A group of Greenwich politicians are urging the council to be able to funds out of Fossil iPhone case fuel investment.

Labour council candidate for Greenwich West, Mehboob Khan, has brokered a meeting between Greenwich Council and Divest Greenwich, which is campaigning for the council to finally divest in FOSSIL iPhone 5 fuels.

The girls will present an open letter supporting divestment, signed by Greenwich parliamentary to council candidates from the Liberal Democrats, the Green Party and Labour.

Mr. Khan said: "I'm hoping which unfortunately public sector pension funds commonly the way using their financial muscle when it comes to divesting from fossil fuels, clearing up funds for renewable energy.

"I'm very pleased that Greenwich Council would have agreed to my proposed meeting. in

The council currently has regarding £17m invested in companies associated with the lifestyle or extraction of fossil energizes.

This information was revealed as a result of something from a Green Party member toward the council meeting in March.

Orange party candidate for Greenwich W., Dr Robin Stott, previously proclaimed the council were risking people money in investments in fossil fuels.

The guy added: "If the council has already seen the error of its ways in which, nobody will be more pleased than myself.

"Cynics may wonder if this abrupt conversion is a result of the strenuous marketing campaign the Green Party is fighting record our first seat on Greenwich Council.

"I worry that if any kind of miraculous conversion to Green finances policies can take place the week before you an election, it could equally incredibly vanish the week after sole. "

Divestment Greenwich campaign advisor Justin Fisher said: "We continue to be delighted that candidates from plenty of different parties have all agreed to promise, give your word their support to this campaign.

"We are looking forward to meeting with the Local authority or council to explain why it is ethically to financially imperative that Greenwich Local authority or council Pension Fund divests. "
